Healing the Earth/Ourselves Newsletter April 2008 Greetings! Osiyo!
A Wonderful ‘Building’ Year Unfolding! By Jim PathFinder Ewing (Nvnehi Awatisgi) What a wonderful year is unfolding! It certainly has offered its challenges, like any birthing year. (The numerology of 2008 is 10: Manifestation, empowerment!) As I write this, the backyard of our new places is muddy, soupy mess! The septic system has been temperamental, sickly even, since we moved in, and workers have been digging. (Note: We are in need of the donation of a Port-o-Potty or Port-o-San, or any used commercial relief station that someone might be through with or not want. Our septic system out in the country here is not up to the task of handling visitors. If you have one to give or are willing to donate one, please write Waya: bisonsmile@bellsouth.net). We’ve hard strong tornados move through, and we thank the beautiful people who have written to make sure we are OK. Yes, we’re doing fine! The storms went to the north and the south of us, sparing our little hilltop and village. It was interesting to see clouds moving north and south at the same time, however! From our vantage atop the hill, we can see the stars at night like they are there for the grasping, the clouds seem like friends who come to visit, and the sun seems to come down and walk among us. It is truly beautiful, and we are blessed. We are, however, still putting things together. This has been a building or perhaps rebuilding, certainly an “unfolding” year for us! Since we have had monthly Drum Circle ceremonies since 2000, our more intermittent schedule has been something of a relief, even if we have been constantly working, building and rebuilding here. We are putting in gardens: a huge four-wheel tractor belonging to a friend is bogged down in the 3-acre bottoms below us as I write, the mud having overcome its gang of disc harrow. Until it dries out, and we can plant there, we’ll have that portion of the property unusable. But we plan to plant watermelons there, which still has a time before planting time. We also plan to grow sugar cane down there to make our own sugar and molasses. Behind the house, we have two gardens waiting to dry out; one for tomatoes and other traditional row crops and another by the ceremonial grounds for sacred herbs. We’ll plant the “three sisters” of corn, squash and beans by the ceremonial grounds, too. But that’s on hold for the weather, also. Annette and our friend Sharon are doing all these agricultural things, which are Spirit-based and organic. We hope that will someday sustain us, along with the books and ceremonies. We really are forging a new life here. (To keep track of the gardens and fields, see the blog; as soon as we can raise some money for a new digital camera, we’ll put photos up. The old one has grown out of focus.)
Drum Circle The next Medicine Wheel Drum Circle will be a work day on Earth Day weekend April 19. Earth Day is the 22nd, but we’ll be drumming for the Earth at some point during the day. We will be moving the tipi from the old ceremonial grounds about a mile from here to the new ceremonial grounds behind the house on Saturday, April 19, and volunteers are welcome. Plan to arrive after noon. We’ll drum at some point after the work is done. You may recall Zen Master Wu Li’s advice: “Before enlightenment chop wood and carry water. After enlightenment, chop wood and carry water.” So, we will Drum when it’s time to drum, and work when it’s time to work, and neither maybe without the other. We will send a voice for the Earth Mother and all beings, on our path, chopping wood, hauling water, moving the tipi. :-) So, we’ll know how many and whom to expect and when, and for directions to our new place, please RSVP Waya at: bisonsmile@bellsouth.net You will note in this newsletter that our friend Bennie Blue Thunder LeBeau has several Medicine Wheel ceremonies upcoming. We will be doing Bear Dance during the Solstice ceremony, and honoring the Earth here, for those who cannot make it to his location.
Bear Dance Awakening the Bears went wonderfully once we got things together at Easter. We had to build a new Sweat Lodge (Asi/Inipi) which took some time, care and effort to ensure it was done right. The ceremonial grounds are still coming together (I just planted it in Bermuda grass and clover to make it softer on the feet!). Much brush has been cleared to make way for people – my brush pile is now taller than I am, about 8 feet tall, and about 30 yards long …. And growing, with much more to go! But it will be used, as compost and for the Sacred Fire, to warm people’s hearts and heat the grandfathers. Nothing is wasted here; everything that can be is recycled. Our next Bear Dance will be at Buffalo, Texas, in May. The next Bear Dance here – mark your calendar! – will be for the 6th Annual Solstice and World Soul Retrieval Daylong Ceremonies at Lena on Saturday, June 21. Plan to spend a wonderful day in the country! We’ll have more on it in upcoming newsletters.
Mississippi Bears Tentative Schedule:
May 24 – Green Corn Festival, Buffalo, Texas. June 21 – 6th Annual Summer Solstice & World Soul Retrieval Day at Lena Nov. 8 (or 15) – Put Bears to Bed, Lena.
There may be more dates added; keep watch on the Events page of the Web site. We will also be having Asi/Inipi (sweat lodge) here, after the lodge is established, and will resume Drum Circles once we have things set here, also. Right now, we’re sort of still in transition.
Whoever wishes to come is welcome. There is no charge for ceremony, of course. Bring food to share. Donations are gratefully accepted. No Drugs or Alcohol. All of our ceremonies are family events. Children (under parental control!) are welcome. For more information and directions, write Waya at bisonsmile@bellsouth.net

Celestial Happenings By Allison Rae Copyright 2008 Allison Rae/www.StarPriestess.com; used by permission The Aries New Moon on April 5 seeds the awakening consciousness of the first Wesak Full Moon two weeks later. A cardinal sign, Aries is initiating and assertive. This is a perfect time for a big new beginning. Meanwhile, Pluto, the Transformer, makes an about-face in early April, moving from grounded Capricorn to the higher cosmic vibrations of Sagittarius, and back, in a retrograde transit that lasts five months. This year we have two Full Moons in the sign of Scorpio, which means, essentially, two Wesak Moons. Something magical is afoot. With two Full Moons in the same sign, the energy and field of impact are greatly magnified. The late Torkum Saraydarian explained the "double-moon" effect this way: "The first full moon challenges our personality qualities. The second full moon challenges our soul qualities. The period in between can be a tremendously rich period of growth, expansion, healing and turning our life around to become more purposeful and soul directed." Now layer in Pluto's retrograde motion during this time, and we have a supreme opportunity to uproot longstanding karmic patterns and accelerate our transformation into self-realized divine beings. Pluto, ruler of Scorpio, plays a starring role, ratcheting up the cosmic energy to peak intensity. Pluto Retrograde - April 2-September 8 This is the last hurrah in Pluto's historic passage back and forth across the Galactic Center. The journey began in December 2006 when Pluto aligned with the Galactic Center at 27 degrees Sagittarius and continued in 2007 with two more exact conjunctions. Although Pluto made an entree into Capricorn earlier this year, he's about to station retrograde and travel "backward" (from our vantage point on Earth) into late Sagittarius, very close to the degree of the Galactic Center, before turning direct again and moving fully into Capricorn for the next 15 years. When the Lord of the Underworld aligns with the massive star- and planet-making black hole at the center of the Milky Way, changes are deep, fast, furious and long-lasting. It may not feel like it, but all Heaven in breaking loose on Earth. During this retrograde phase, we have another chance for Divine Love to emerge as the dark recesses of the individual and collective psyche are purged of illusion - the self-limiting thoughts, beliefs, programs and addictions that have no place in an enlightened future. Two Wesak Moons! Scorpio/Taurus Full Moon #1 - April 20 - 3:25 AM PDT; 6:25 AM EDT; 11:25 AM GMT Scorpio/Taurus Full Moon #2 - May 19/20 - 7:11 PM PDT May 19; 10:11 PM EDT May 19; 3:11 AM GMT May 20 On April 20, a Full Moon occurs in the first degree of Scorpio. The second Wesak Moon happens 29 days later, in the last degree of Scorpio. Life as we know it could completely turn around somewhere between Point A and Point B. In the relentlessly transformative sign of Scorpio, the Moon's rays dig deep to illuminate what's been held in the subconscious, both individually and collectively. In Tibetan Buddhism, Wesak celebrates the birth, death and enlightenment of the Buddha. Clearly, Tibet will be in the world spotlight at this lunation, as Buddhists and many others around the world celebrate the lunar holy day. In the esoteric teachings rooted in Buddhist and Vedic traditions, Wesak Festival is the second of the three great spring lunar festivals, a focal point for humanity to receive the cosmic energies of enlightenment. Wesak is traditionally a time for planetary servers around the world to gather in meditation, creating a vessel to receive the powerful spiritual energies directed to Earth through the gateway of Shambala. As the time draws near, we'll share ideas for observing the Wesak Moon with ritual, prayer and meditation.

Carol Proudfoot-Edgar Offers Classes A host of shamanic classes, including Bear Medicine workshops for women, is offered in coming months by Carol Proudfoot-Edgar. She writes: Dear Friends, I invite you to consider participating in some Circle or some workshop that assists you in deepening your connection with the many Spirits of Nature and with your fellow pilgrims on the shamanic path. Just now all of Nature is animated by the fertile life force. When we entwine ourselves with this force, we are inspired and strengthened in all that we do or all that we seek to become. I want to remind you of some forthcoming workshops being offered in unique natural habitats....Circling within them, we shall deepen our understanding of stone, tree, water, animal and weather spirits. Within the Redwoods are medicine wheel, labyrinth, and trails that take us to the deeper withinness of the forest or to the promontory from which we view the mountains around us. These workshops have the option of commuting or lodging at the center. For those needing assistance, scholarships are available. Complete information is available at my website: http://www.shamanicvisions.com/08workshops/index.html You can also contact the Coordinator for Shamanic Visions, Pirkko Miller swanwoman@kconline.com. As Sun casts more and more light in these coming days and months, may we bless, and be blessed by, all the Possibilities for growth and flowering presented to us. And support one another as we transform possibility into actuality. Love and blessings,

Ascension Test: Unfolding How does the flower know when to grow? The scientists will tell us that an amalgam of precise conditions occur, such as temperature of the soil, length of the day, amounts of moisture, for the seed to grow. Then, the plant follows its DNA programming. It sounds so …. Precise. But, again: How does the flower grow? How does it “know” when to sprout, when to send out shoots, or how to send them? Or how many leaves to put forth? Or what is the proper height? DNA? Or God’s breath? That secret code is within each of us: our impetus for unfolding. We are grateful for, and nurture our gratitude as the proper “soil” for its abundance! Aho. Join Our Circle of Friends For MySpace, click Here Thank you! Wado! May You Walk in Peace and Harmony!
