As the medicine wheel of the season turns from fall toward winter (approaching the cross-quarter or midway between Fall Equinox and Winter Solstice), our thoughts turn to letting go of those things that have outserved us to allow room for new things.
October is popularly associated with Halloween, but it's a time the ancients of all cultures held dear. European hallowed eve'n was the 31st, with Samhain (Celtic) on Nov. 1 (though it's astrologically this year on Nov. 8).

Among the Cherokee (properly Tsalagi), The Great New Moon Festival was held around October. This marked the beginning of the Cherokee New Year. It was believed that the world was created in the season of Autumn. New moon, as the Tsalagi marked the beginning of months, is Oct. 11 this year. Atahuna (or the making friends, reconciliation or cementation ceremony) was usually held about 10 days after Great New Moon. (Our tribe will be celebrating both Oct. 20 in Texas.) We invite everyone to Lena on Oct. 27 for Medicine Wheel Prayer Ceremony to celebrate the shifting of the seasons. Just as the trees let go their leaves to make room for this season, we make room for our futures, as well.

In this newsletter, we are beginning something new, also. Just as we have started using this more abbreviated format for the "newsletter," per se, with a more expanded version on the Web site, we also are expanding our offerings to our blog, and on MySpace and Facebook. Each is a little different.
In the blog, Annette begins to write about her canoe trip down the Mississippi River, and of the fall garden that is now bearing fruit (see photos, such as above!).

On MySpace and Facebook, we reach out to new audiences.

What are Those Little Orbs?

There is a lot of discussion about “orbs” these days; not knowing exactly what they are.

They have been around for some time, usually showing up in photographs.

In years past, people would discard photos with orbs on them, thinking there was something wrong with the photograph and, indeed, professional film developers usually wouldn't even print them, as customers complained for being charged for pictures with "spots" on them.

But they have become so prevalent now, everywhere, with the advent of digital cameras that they can no longer be so easily dismissed.

If you look on our Web site, you will see one of those odd discoveries -- larger than an orb, looking like a big blur -- in a photo a tribe member made while I was clearing an area for the women's tent on our ceremonial grounds. He thought "some moisture must have gotten on the lens." But if you magnify it, you see a perfectly shaped bear in it, overlooking what's going on. It is bear spirit, which is appropriate since bear is my totem and I'm a bear dancer.

It is my feeling they are vehicles for intelligence, not intelligence itself.

I believe that the little orbs we see are little bubbles in the space/time continuum, allowing other intelligences to view our everyday lives.

We do not see them with the naked eye, normally. In nonordiniary reality, when journeying shamanically, they appear as they are themselves, full sized, and wherever they might be. But in this 3-D world, some maneuvering must be done, so they create these “bubbles” to allow seeing here and being here. Remember, something in nonordinary reality can be very large and appear as only a small thing here. That is the secret of “power objects” and how even small, ordinary looking stones can have great power. They may appear small and unobtrusive in ordinary reality but be quite large and have greater properties in nonordinary reality that can be “brought in” to the 3D world. Shamans and medicine people know this, but usually don’t speak of it plainly. Maybe it’s something only those who need to know will know.

Consider them as little doorways to other places; but it’s not advisable to enter those doors, lest you get lost. A power animal would prevent you from doing anything that you shouldn’t and allow you to see within it and bring you back. Journeying alone into such places is inadvisable, or ever, in my view.

Lest you think that orbs are the subject of scrutiny only by mystics and “New Age” type inquiries, Dr. Tiller gave a talk on them from a physicist’s perspective to the Prophets Conference in May. His abstract is below. Personally, I prefer my explanation.

Orbs: Are They a Psychogenergetic Phenomenon?

In this talk, we first need to discriminate the key difference between
psychoenergetic science and traditional science. Our recent
psychoenergetic science research has unequivocally experimentally proven
that human consciousness can significantly alter the properties of
materials, both inert and living. We find that any material quality, QM,
can be expressed as QM(t) = Qe + aeff(t)Qm. Here, Qe is the property-value
from our normal particulate, electric atom/molecule level of physical
reality, Qm is the property-value from our newly discovered, magnetic
information wave level of physical reality that functions in the physical
vacuum and is modulateable via human consciousness and human intention and
aeff is the consciousness-dependent coupler (coupling coefficient) of
these two unique levels of physical reality. Thus, if aeff is of
negligible magnitude, one obtains only our normal, traditional physics
(QM=Qe). However, when aeff is of a significant magnitude, the
intention-modulated physics of the Qm-level comes into play to either
increase or decrease the experimentally measured value, QM.
Our psychoenergetic science research has also shown that the human
acupuncture meridian/chakra system is also capable of responding to
focused human intentions in order to significantly increase aeff both
within the human body and within its radiated biofield.
If Orbs are a phenomenon associated with only the Qe-level of physical
reality, then their explanation is probably associated with
electromagnetic (EM) light scattering from airborne particulates.
Likewise, if Orbs are a sensory organism of the Qm-level of physical
reality and aeff ~0, no digital cameras will register their presence.
However, if they are from the Qm-level of physical reality and aeff is
significant in magnitude either from (1) IIED space conditioning, (2)
strong human biofields, (3) background growth of the “coupler” medium in
the cosmos (4) information entanglement with a remote conditioned space or
(5) all of the foregoing, then they will be detectable by digital cameras.
In the mid-1970’s, I conducted some research with a deeply spiritual man
who strongly manifested psychoenergetic phenomena. One of these was his
ability to “condition” standard-film cameras to reveal behavior like that
given by the above equation. In fact, he was able to take clear pictures
even with the lens-cap still on the camera. He created a large aeff with
his biofield and his intention was just “to reveal God’s Universe”.
When we consider the “psychophysiological principle” in humans and the
“placebo effect”, there is plenty of experimental data to support the
working hypothesis that Orbs are normally undetectable sensory moieties
from the Qm-level of physical reality that digital cameras reveal via the
generation of a significant value of aeff in the camera locale.

Fellow to the American Academy for the Advancement of Science, Professor
Emeritus William A. Tiller, of Stanford University’s Department of
Materials Science, spent 34 years in academia after 9 years as an advisory
physicist with the Westinghouse Research Laboratories. In his conventional
science field he has published over 250 scientific papers, 3 books and
several patents. In parallel, for the past 30 years, he has been
avocationally pursuing serious experimental and theoretical study of the
field of psychoenergetics which he thinks will become a very important
part of "tomorrow’s" physics. In this new area, he has published to date,
an additional 100 scientific papers and two seminal books.

Medicine Wheel Drum Circle Prayer Ceremony Oct. 27 in Lena
We will drum at 7 p.m. It's Pot Luck, as usual; bring a covered dish or food of some kind to share if you want to participate in the meal.

Bring a drum or rattle if you have one; if not, come as the Creator guides you. We are in our 8th year of holding the monthly Medicine Wheel Prayer Ceremony. All are welcome, especially children! We can give love to others and send blessings, and they feel them. They may not be fully aware of the good feeling, the helpful thought, the awareness of something fresh, new and good around them, but that healing touch of our thoughts and prayers, our blessings, are felt near and far. We can also heal others, as well as ourselves, if each night before sleeping, we inventory the day and allow a good thought to replace a bad one, a confused one, an incomplete one, or correct an error, allow heart-felt feeling to fill in the blanks. This "clearing the slate" each night allows us to awaken fresh, ready to start anew. But it begins with reaching out... to heal inward, outward, all around, the Beauty Way.
