A Reminder For Jackson Folks….

By Jim PathFinder Ewing (Nvnehi Awatisgi)

This is just a little reminder for Jackson folks about two upcoming book signings, and a little more about “Clearing”…. If you will indulge me.

First, the book signings… Just a reminder for folks in Central Mississippi who might be interested....

Book signing, at Lemuria Books in Jackson, Saturday, Oct. 21
A note about Lemuria:
”According to myth, the lost continent of Lemuria was once home to an advanced human civilization. The Lemurians possessed vast knowledge and great power, as well as the uncanny ability to communicate with one another through mental telepathy. But they were brazen and challenged the gods, who were displeased with their pride. As punishment, the gods took away the gift of telepathy and left them to devise new methods of communication. It was at this time that the Lemurians developed the world's first system of writing and began recording their thoughts in books.”
So, I guess it’s a good place for me to be with my book, huh?
I’ll be there from 11 a.m. Til 12:30 p.m.

Now, for the other stuff…

A Word on The Book

By Jim PathFinder Ewing (Nvnehi Awatisgi)

First for the good news….

If you would like to order a copy of “Clearing” directly from us, we now have that available on the Web page (www.blueskywaters.com).
For 14.95 plus $4.50 shipping Priority Mail for anywhere in the United States, we’ll send you a signed copy of the book; personalized, if you specify.
It certainly would make a good Christmas present, or something special for anyone special — especially someone who doesn’t have much knowledge about energy work but would like to learn.
Please use the Pay Pal button on the Web page and make sure you spell out the name of the person you want the book to be signed for and the address for where it should be shipped, with $19.45 total, included.

More good news… The book seems to be selling well on Amazon; this past week, it was up to 1,200 in sales – pretty good for a new book by an unknown author. Now for the maybe not so good news….

Why aren’t there many good energy medicine books in bookstores?

I’ve often wondered that. Mind you, there are some good books, but a lot aren’t very good, and you have to search for them. Now, I think I know why.

Since the announcement that “Clearing: A Guide to Liberating Energies Trapped in Buildings and Lands” was being published, a number of people have written to inquire how they can get their books published – some sending manuscripts.

These aren’t “off the wall” people, but real professionals – people who are doing like I’m doing, practicing energy medicine, and they have a lot to share. Some, especially Native American, include incredibly detailed and ancient knowledge that should be published and, I’m sure, would be read.

But they’ve run up against a stone wall. No agents will look at their manuscripts; publishers don’t even write back. They ask: “How can I get my book published,” and I answer them honestly: “I don’t know.”

Findhorn Took A Chance

The only way that “Clearing” was published is because a publishing house, Findhorn, in Scotland, with a proven history of publishing books along these lines took a chance on it.

I, also, had tried the traditional route to no avail. The first book I wrote was “Healing The Earth/Ourselves,” in 1999. I put it up on the Web page in 2000 which I started for that purpose as an e-book because nobody would publish it. (More than 100,000 people have read it, according to the hit counter, and hundreds more read it every month; you’d think that would tell the book publishing people something.) I also had sent it to book publishers, agents, friends who had published books, to no avail. The second book I wrote, in 2000, was a mega “more than anybody would ever want to know about energy medicine book,” that never went anywhere and still sits in a computer file somewhere, all 350 pages of it, unread, unpublished, and unlikely ever to see the light of day. It, too, went through the “process” of editors, etc., and rejection. The third try was “Clearing,” and it led to a contract for a second book which is in the editing process now and will come out in the Spring. I’m also to write two more books, on “right of first refusal”; but if “Clearing” and the next one don’t sell, I’ll be in the same boat as my friends.

I Found The Answer

Most of my friends who have written books either had them published as trial runs by small presses, or they paid out of their own pocket to get them published; that is: self-published. At most of the conferences one goes to on energy medicine, those are the books that are sold. We all sort of trade them back and forth, essentially selling them out of the trunks of our cars.

This in no way says the books are not valuable, or important; they just aren’t given the opportunity to be seen by the general public. Why is that?

I was driving home the other day and stopped by Border’s books, just to see if they had my book. Well, they didn’t. So, I went by the information desk and inquired why. The lady there said she would order a couple of copies. I identified myself and told her that I lived here and would be happy to do a book signing, or whatever, but she hemmed and hawed. Finally, I offered, “Look, I drive by here every day, it’s really no problem for me to stop and sign books, answer questions, or whatever.”

That’s when she said that these decisions were made by corporate headquarters in Nashville, Tenn., and she gave me a form letter. When I got home, I called the phone number provided, but haven’t been able to get past Border’s voice mail. (I find that rather ironic, since I grew up in Tennessee and actually lived for a brief period only a few blocks from that address in Nashville.)

Then, it all became clear.

As you may recall, it was a long and arduous process to find a publisher for “Clearing.” It took three years, and then only after one major New York publishing house went all the way up to signing a contract and then backed out when it was vetoed by a corporate type there saying it had “too many unseen spirits.”

The reason you don’t get too many books published about energy medicine – and that includes Native American, shamanism, what have you – is because the major publishing houses say “they don’t sell.”

But it’s these corporate types who make the decisions about if a book will be published and who also decide if it will be stocked on the shelves.

If it’s not on the shelves, it won’t sell. Then, when it doesn’t sell, they can say, we don’t want these books because they don’t sell.

No Market?

I find it interesting that millions of Americans practice complementary, alternative medicine and prefer it over traditional approaches, yet books that detail how to avoid the corporate/pharmaceutical industry to find health, wholeness and happiness – through Spirit – can’t find editors, agents, publishers and distributors.

I find it interesting that faith-based books on healing and guidance that follow non-mainstream formulas – unless somehow prefaced on a gimmick – cannot find the same.

Isn’t our society supposed to be a free marketplace of ideas?

But doesn’t that also presuppose a level playing field, where nontraditional approaches (and I use that advisedly, as there are few more “traditional” practices than indigenous and Eastern energy modalities, going back thousands of years) are given a fair chance?

In America, the modern book publishing business, it appears, is aimed at satisfying the lowest common denominator of thought, and only on mainstream topics. It doesn’t matter that there is a real thirst, a hunger, for Spirit-based books, with millions of Americans searching for answers that can provide meaning in their lives. Those who control the American book market, it appears, only look for the quick buck, the easy score.

Well, Let’s Make It Easy For Them

That said, if we accept the premise that the American book scene is not one that takes a chance, let’s work within the system.

A number of people have asked how they can help sell “Clearing.”

Here’s how. Below is a list of independent bookstores that, apparently, other independent bookstores look at to determine what books to sell. If one is located in your city, please go by there and ask for “Clearing.” If it’s not there, ask them why, and ask them to order it for their shelves. I think that I can safely say that, with so many millions of people doing simple, unconscious things to improve their personal spaces as burning incense, that they would welcome a book that tells them why it works, how it works, and what they can do to amplify the energy.

I firmly believe that “Clearing” in a few years will be in the hands of anyone even remotely interested in energy medicine, if given half a chance. It’s the perfect book to give to someone who has no clue as to how energy medicine works, as an introduction and primer; as well as a guide for more advanced work.

Anyone who reads and practices “Clearing” can do 90 percent of what I do in clearing spaces, lands and buildings. For $14.95, the reader gets the benefit of knowledge that cost me hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars to learn. If it’s not in the book, then you really do need an expert!

Below that list is a list of chain stores; if you really feel adventurous, treat it like a “treasure hunt” and go to each one, seeing if “Clearing” is there and urging them to display and sell it. If people see the book, are exposed to it in any way, I believe it will sell. Indeed, there shouldn’t be a holistic or healthfood store or Spirit bookstore in America that doesn’t have it sitting next to the cash register. It will sell -- because people are doing it anyway; they just don’t know why, or how to do it better.

If you don’t feel like doing that, I am also sending out a separate announcement titled “Clearing Now In Bookstores.” If you don’t care to do any “sleuthing” for “Clearing” in your local bookstores, I would ask that you, if you care, to please forward it to others. If you have a Web site, put it on your Web site. If you belong to an Internet listserve or like a certain message board, send it to them (if their rules allow it), or refer them to the Web page (www.blueskywaters.com). Just forward it to everyone on your e-mail list, or listserves, or whatever with a simple note that says “I’ve read this book and it’s worth having” or something to that effect.

And, if you really like the book, look for “reviews” on Amazon and other Internet book sellers and click on it, writing what you like about the book.

The Whole World Connected?

Can you imagine what a different world this would be if every person could raise their vibration rate and that of their surroundings? Connect every point on the globe with the Christ Consciousness Grid (in Native terms, connected with the Plume of Quetzalcoatl)? That’s what this book teaches, in simple step-by-step instructions. This knowledge has been kept secret for ages, only fully known by the esoteric, cloistered few – and it’s here, at anyone’s fingertips, available, understandable and easily learned and practiced by anyone, and for only $14.95.

I have no doubt that left on its own, “Clearing” will one way or another find its way into the hands of those who want and need it. But, unless it’s a “success,” as measured by the corporate types, how many other manuscripts will go unread and unreturned? How many other voices will be silenced? Or cries for such knowledge be unheard?

If you don’t care to do any of these things, then delete these messages and please accept my apology for cluttering up your e-mail queue. The regular newsletter will go on as usual. I appreciate your time. Thank you! Wado!

Exciting News!

By Jim PathFinder Ewing (Nvnehi Awatisgi)

There are so many things going on this month!

As with last month, we’re late with the newsletter. We were held up by book business and our tribe’s Atahuna Festival. In the Tsalagi (Cherokee) way, we actually have two “new years.” There’s one at the spring New Moon, when the Earth is awakening from winter slumber; the other is the fall New Moon, which marks the beginning of a spiritual new year. It is believed in Tsalagi way that Creator created the Earth in the autumn. So, we mark this time with special ceremonies, including a week or so after the new moon, the Atahuna – or cementation, propitiation or making of friends – festival.

Time of Reflection/Purification Fits The Season

This festival is a time of reflection and purification. Ancient peoples knew that this time of year is very stressful on human beings and, indeed, all beings. So, Atahuna was a time of clearing out the old and making new commitments, reestablishing friendships and committing to serve self, family, clan, tribe, nation, Creator. A similar, and a bit harsher, ceremony was held usually in November called the Bounding Bush; that is when the cold winds would start to blow and the people would celebrate with gifts of pure spirit; blessing the tobacco for ceremony during the winter and otherwise preparing. In late October, too, the Tsalagi would also hold a Booger Dance. This is where the phrase “The boogey man will get you if you don’t watch out!” At this time, people would make masks of things they feared, fearsome masks, to chase away bad spirits. As with most cultures that have watered down this time of the “thinning of the veils,” which in our Western way we call Halloween, the Cherokee recognized that that it is easy for spirits to walk the land at this time.

The Booger Dance

To ensure no bad spirits lingered, they held the Booger Dance. It was in some ways rather bawdy, which some observers said consisted of men with masks chasing Cherokee women and, when asked what they wanted, was: “Girls!” So, there was an element of humor to it. The “Boogers” inevitably were chased away, despite their antics and desires. But it has a deeper meaning which is pertinent to day, too. By fashioning masks that represent our fears, however frightening, we can laugh at them, and chase them away. Consider making a Booger mask for Halloween. One of the sweetest gifts given some of the men at the Atahuna Festival were Booger masks some of the women made for the men that sort of fit them in a funny way. Our chief, for example, was made a mask that made him look comical and goofy, which he’s not; a very serious type; but he and all the others laughed uproariously, and delighted in it. For me, they gave a mask that was grotesque and misshapen and featured a big target with the nose as the bull’s-eye. They said that I’m target enough for too many people, and maybe the Booger could take some of the hits. We all laughed; it’s true, and I love it. I’ll honor the Booger by waving it around whenever dark missives come my way! Boogah-Boogah!!! We danced our masks at Atahuna in the sacred circle, to the delight of everyone.

Big Doings

There are a lot of big doings coming up:

Oct. 14 – Drum Circle here in Lena

Oct. 21 – Book signing at Lemuria Books in Jackson

Oct. 28 – Book signing and Workshop Based on the Book at New Vibrations in Jackson

Nov. 4 – Putting The Bears To Sleep in Russellville, Ark.

Drum Circle Oct. 14 Here In Lena – A Celebration!

When looking at the calendar, I told Annette, “Hmmm, you know, the only weekend we have open for Drum Circle is the weekend of our first wedding anniversary, afraid of what she might say. I shouldn’t have feared. She replied instantly, “I knew when I married you that our life together would be one of service. Let’s make it a celebration for everyone.” Isn’t she great?!! (To read the story of our marriage, see the Web page: http://www.blueskywaters.com/page_200.htm)

It’s true. One year ago, Oct. 15, when we were married, I was the spiritual and ceremonial elder for the Manataka American Indian Council. She flew in from her teaching job in Miami on Thursday night; we left for Arkansas Friday, driving all day, getting the marriage license before they closed; we were married at dawn on Saturday and immediately afterwards I performed ceremony all day, did sweats and danced the Bear when darkness came, until well after midnight. We drove the eight hours back to Mississippi on Sunday, and she flew back to Miami on Monday. We didn’t have our honeymoon until later when she flew from Miami and I flew from Jackson and we met in Los Angeles, where we slept a few hours, then traveled to the Yokuts Reservation where I could dance the bear. We did spend a little time together, doing ceremony in Northern California, but had to fly back our separate ways until we could finally be together at the end of her school year in December. It’s not easy being the wife of someone who does what I do. But, now, we do it together. And that is a blessing from Creator, a miracle, and a source of tremendous joy. We are blessed.

Sharing the Joy

So, we’ll have a special celebratory Drum Circle, with a public sweat – all who care to join – before the drumming. All who want to participate should be here at noon. Please write beforehand so we’ll know how many to expect. See “The Protocol For The Bear Lodge” on the Web page (http://www.blueskywaters.com/page_37.htm), if this is your first sweat. As usual, there is no charge for this, or for Drum Circle Medicine Wheel Ceremony, which will start as usual at 7 p.m. – though donations are gratefully received. Especially wood. We really need wood for the sweat lodge (it costs $200 a cord and a sweat takes about a third of a cord). Bring food to share for afterwards.

Oct. 21 – Book signing at Lemuria Books in Jackson

This has something of a story to it. To my mind, you really haven’t made “the big time” until you are asked to have a book signing at Lemuria Books in Jackson (at Banner Hall, I-55 North). The oldest privately owned bookstore in Jackson, that’s where all the “big” authors sign their books. So, I’m very honored to be asked.

I’ll be there from 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. – just an hour and a half, so please drop by. I remember years ago, I read in the newspaper where one of my favorite authors, Carl Hiaasen, was coming to Mississippi for a book signing at Lemuria, so I made an effort to attend. To tell you how long ago this was, my son, Ross, now 19, was only a toddler and I had babysitting duties that day. We went to Lemuria and a few people were milling around, but Hiaasen was sitting there forlornly surrounded by his books, all alone. Nobody knew who he was!

So, I walked right up and plopped down all his books that I had brought and said, “Hi, I’m Jim and I’m one of your biggest fans!” He looked at the books, picked one up, a first edition, hardbound, and said, “Boy, you really are a fan. We didn’t sell many of these.”

Since there was nobody there to see him, we sat for about 45 minutes and talked, until Ross became such a little wild Indian, climbing the stacks and all over us, that we had to leave.

I doubt Hiaasen remembers me, but I’ll never forget it.

I suspect, nobody will know who I am at Lemuria, either.

So, come by. Buy a book. Visit. I’ll be happy to see you. J

Oct. 28 – Book signing and Workshop Based on the Book at New Vibrations in Jackson

The real bash will be at New Vibrations, 2914 N. State St., Jackson, which is, you might say, “my spiritual home.” And we plan a real celebration.

Back when Karen Parker was first considering opening a book store, I was one of her biggest boosters, saying “we really need a spirit bookstore in Jackson!” Her first books were ones she copied down from my bookshelf here during a Drum Circle. And since the day she opened, New Vibrations has been one the places where I’ve routinely cleared the energy. So, it’s fitting we have a special event.

I’ll be signing books from 10 a.m. until noon, then from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., we’ll  hold a workshop based on the book. This will be the first workshop on the book, so I’m not sure yet what we’ll do exactly, but we’ll be taping it to make a CD (if you don’t want to be taped, better not come J) that we’ll sell with the book at some point.

Normally, for a workshop like that, I’d charge $150 or more. But, since this is “home” and a celebration, we’re offering the workshop for $65 and, thanks to Karen’s generosity, that includes a copy of the book. If you already have a copy, you can give it to somebody, so everybody is gifted.

If interested in the workshop, call Karen: 601-981-1153 or e-mail her at: newvibrations2003@hotmail.com

Space could be limited, so make arrangements ASAP.

Nov. 4 – Putting The Bears To Sleep in Russellville, Ark.

At this time of year, as the Medicine Wheel of the Earth turns toward winter, across the country, the bears are seeking their dens. We’ll be putting the bears to sleep for the winter at Russellville, Ark., the evening of Saturday, Nov. 4. During the day, there will be public sweats; so come early. Usually, very few people attend this event, so it’s a cozy gathering. All are welcome and, of course, as a sacred ceremony, it’s free. For more information, directions, etc., see the Web site: http://www.blueskywaters.com/page_38.htm

Come join us!

There’s lot to do this month, and it should be simply marvelous!

Many Blessings,

PathFinder

Star Events This Month…

Libra New Moon - October 21

Orionids Meteor Showers - October 21-22

And don’t forget, oh, no!, to mark your calendars:

Mercury Retrograde - October 28-November 17.

If anything is weak or in need of repair or restructuring, that’s a safe bet when it will happen during Mercury retrograde. Know that plans may not come to fruition as planned, electronic communications could go haywire, and it’s a time for reflection – allowing new energies to come in. Don’t get mad, chill out! It’s Creator’s way of forcing us to simply allow change in our lives, to fix whatever needs fixing, or readjust our course in life – in the short term or the long term. In fact, if we don’t get uptight about it, this three-week period can be a good time for review, charting a course, and waiting for the opportune time to put new plans into motion based on new information. – PathFinder

(Note: We predicting big changes last newsletter in this “time of transition” between Summer Solstice and Winter Solstice, and those changes have affected nearly everyone, even Allison Rae. Read on . . . -- PathFinder)

New Beginnings

By Allison Rae ( excerpted from http://www.StarPriestess.com/):

Creation necessarily involves destruction.  This is the myth of Kali and the Dark Madonna. It's how Pluto operates. We must sacrifice every-thing to attain the state of no-being-ness required so that we may create purely from Essence.

With Pluto's help, every-thing can change in the wink of an eye.  And it did.

The end of Alignments (monthly newsletter) completes a 7-year cycle that began in 1999. The changes in our lives and our world during this time reflect changes in our inner landscape as the evolution of consciousness accelerates toward 2012 and beyond.  This is only the beginning.

Pluto's conjunction with the Galactic Center in 2006-2007 opens the cosmic floodgate. This passage shatters our assumptions and opens us to greater understanding of the nature of reality and our true purpose.

Through this gateway, a most profound connection with Source is possible. Much will be destroyed in the process.

I realize now that the Alignments Newsletter wasn't big enough to transmit this message. Like Sagittarius the archer, we need to aim higher, reach for the stars, return in consciousness to our true home.

Beginnings

Welcome to Cosmic Time, my new astro-ezine, a transmission from the Stars, the Source-consciousness that's contacting us now to remind us of our nature, destiny and purpose.

In Cosmic Time, we'll explore 2012, the Mayan calendar and what comes next, cycles of time, the stars and planets, our relationship to the cosmos.

We'll expand on these themes and celebrate a new beginning with a special group experience in northern New Mexico on the weekend of the Libra New Moon.  The 2012 Activation Weekend will be October 21-22, 2006, at Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs. For details or to register, please visit this link on my web site: http://www.StarPriestess.com/events.html

100 Days on the Wisdom Road - Odyssey Saga Hits Milestone –

From Steven McFadden (http://www.8thfire.net):
Readers invited to join online pilgrimage across North America

Santa Fe, NM – As of September 30, 2006 the saga Odyssey of the 8th Fire has completed 100 days of its literary pilgrimage.
Odyssey tells the true story of a epic journey which began in 1995, but which is still unfinished as of 2006. Despite monumental obstacles, the pilgrimage and its story have endured for 100 days and made it to the far shore of the Mississippi River, heading West. There is further to go.
This pilgrimage for the earth involves people of all colors and faiths, and is guided by ancient Algonquin teachings. The telling of the walk’s as-yet-unfinished tale (creative nonfiction in online evolution) is progressing day by day on the internet until February, 2007 at http://www.8thfire.net
McFadden will give a workshop based on Odyssey of the 8th Fire at 7 PM on Thursday, October 19, 2006 at the Green Canteen, 1614 St. Michael’s Drive, Santa Fe, NM.
There is still time for readers to join the online pilgrimage, and to read along day by day as the true, unfinished story unfolds in serial fashion.

In ancient times, women were considered the dreamers and oracles of the future. Native American prophecy has stated that "peace shall be found on the land when the women regain their esteem."  The great lineage we carry as wisdom is a source of power from the earth, as well as the path to reclaiming our identity and purpose. This retreat brings together extraordinary teachers united by a commitment to peaceful evolution and our capacity to facilitate change. They will share the teachings and powerful rites of passage of their respective traditions in a traditional women's camp setting. We will explore how the ancient wisdom traditions of earth women can join us in Contemporary Tradition, be a magnet for those who are ready to claim power, and so equip us to meet the challenges of transitional, evolving lifestyles. This four day program will include personal renewal through ritual, music, dance, song, deep dialogue, laughter and ancient earth teachings. For more information, see: http://www.medicine-eagle.com

Save Native Languages Bill

By Cindy Catches

Dear Friends, Native Languages are in serious danger. We have already lost the majority of the Native languages of this land. Our dear friend Patricia Locke helped put thru a bill to save the ones that are left; now that is in danger without your help and support. Culture is a gift to humanity from God. Each culture has its own language. Language formulates how a person sees their world. You save a language and you save a culture. Its like a flower garden, the beauty of that garden is the unique and different flowers in it. Let me give you an example. In the Lakota language the word for child is wakanyeja which means sacred being. Consider if you had grown up thinking of yourself as a sacred being. Your whole perception is turned in a different way. Another word: mitakuye oyasin means ‘all my relations’ meaning the person is acknowledging their relationship with all humans, animals, the earth, the universe and all of God’s creation. With that understanding of a person’s world, comes responsibility.

People’s different perceptions can only help each other in knowing and exploring ones’ own world. Please take a few minutes and write letters to protect these precious languages we have left. Most Indian reservations are the poorest places in our country; there are a few exceptions due to casinos. These languages can only be protected by financial help from our government. The peoples  of this country has propertied tremendously by the sacrifices of Native peoples. Please take this time to do something for them and in doing so, it will help all of us. Please pass this email to all that you know and take a few minutes to write a letter. Thank you for your time and small sacrifice. Cindy Catches

Note: The Bill passed the House and now goes to the Senate (http://www.indiancountry.com/content.cfm?id=1096413745).

Please write:
The Honorable John McCain Chairman Indian Affairs Committee U.S. Senate
Washington, D.C. 20510
The Honorable Byron Dorgan Vice Chairman Indian Affairs Committee U.S.
Senate Washington, D.C. 20510
Tell them:
I strongly support H.R. 4766, the Esther  Martinez Native American Languages Preservation Act of 2006. We urge the Senate to pass the House bill by unanimous consent. We appreciate your efforts to help us save our Native American languages.

Sincerely,

Ascension Test: Our World

What is our world? Is it a globe spinning in the enormity of space? Is it an electronic jungle where predators fight for our minds 24/7? Is it the smile you feel? The rain upon your face? The sound of a gentle breeze rustling through the trees? Where are you? What is the shape of your world? Where do you want to live? Aho.

Do You Feel The Shift?

By Jim PathFinder Ewing (Nvnehi Awatisgi)

Can you feel the shift?

The great and powerful, inexorable turn of the Medicine Wheel of the Earth is turning, spiraling into another season….

This is probably the latest the newsletter has come out in the six years I’ve been writing it. The past six weeks have just been a complete swirl. So much, in so little time. The calendar on the wall just doesn’t seem to mean anything, as indecipherable as ancient hieroglyphs. The only time is “now.”

I don’t know if you’ve seen that commercial on TV where people are going about their lives, in regular fashion, while the world is accelerated around them in fast forward. And, frankly, I’m not sure what they’re selling with the ad. But that’s how the past few months have been. I’ve been going about my business while the world seems to be going in fast forward. Maybe it’s happened in the past at this time of year, but I wasn’t aware of it; this time, each of these “fast forward” people, places and things seemingly making demands of my time. So, I’ve just had to focus on one… thing … at … a … time – while the world blitzes past.

At times, it’s been overwhelming. And Spirit has stepped forward.

I was talking over the Labor Day weekend with my friends Bright Star and Medicine Bull and, somehow, the conversation turned to stick bugs. You know: those creatures that look like a stick, with legs. “Walking Sticks,” they are called. Don’t know how the topic arose, but it did; and I recalled that as a boy growing up in Tennessee, they seemed to be everywhere. I had not seen one since. But, lo and behold, last weekend I was sitting on the porch here in Lena and looked and there was a stick bug. It was quite large, maybe 8 inches long, and seemed to having difficulty walking. Maybe one of the cats had gotten it and deposited it on the porch. But, without thinking, I plucked it up and gently laid it in the rose thicket next to the house. These are wild “Cherokee Roses” that grow naturally, without any fuss. The stick bug did what it does best: became perfectly still, at home, and thereby blended into the vines.

Curious, I told Annette about it, and she looked up facts about the creature; it turns out, it’s natural home is brambles, vines and…. Rose thickets!!! I had instinctively placed it where it needed to be.

It occurred to me then that Spirit was speaking: Be still. Blend in. I will watch over you and place you where you need to be. Don’t worry about the world. All will be well.

Transitioning Through Polarity

So, I’ve been plodding along, careful, ponderous and particular as a stick bug. Allowing the world to do its thing, while I follow the spiral inward, discovering new worlds there.

Next weekend, Sept. 23, is the Fall Equinox. We will take Drum Circle on the road, holding the Medicine Wheel Ceremony at the house of Drum Circle member Susannah Dakin in Oxford, Miss. (Directions below) This will allow all those North Mississippi and Memphis people to attend, without bother. All are welcome.

The Fall Equinox is a powerful time on the
