The Mayan Calendar: A Roadmap to Consciousness
By Jim PathFinder Ewing (Nvnehi Awatisgi)
(Note: This is also a frequently requested newsletter, June 23, 2002, Vol. 2, No. 23)
One of the fascinating speakers I heard at the New Age Conference I attended last month (hosted by Allison Bluestar Rae of Sedona, Ariz.) in Crestone, Colo., was Ian Xel Lungold, an expert on the Mayan Calendar (see his website: www.mayanmajix.com).
The conference was only one stop on my Spirit Quest, which included various power spots and sacred sites in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Oklahoma, Arkansas and, yes, in Mississippi.
The trip itself formed a circle 4,200 miles in circumference and I drummed in each spot, fixing each site in an energy grid linking back to the ashram at home, which in turn now forms a double pyramid (like an hourglass) to the Christ Consciousness. It was a most powerful journey. It was a trip of a lifetime with visions and experiences that were incredible but true. More on this in future newsletters.
But the teaching of Lungold was an eye-opener, too. And I knew as soon as I listened to him the first day, with two sessions each two-hours, that part of the reason I was in Crestone was to hear him speak.
I’ve studied – more accurately, tried to study – the Mayan Calendar for years. For months, I’ve had the Dreamspell version on my computer, which I removed after I got home, for now I am convinced that Lungold has the true geometry.
Listening to Lungold, every question or puzzlement, rather, I had about the Mayan Calendar was cleared up. It was really almost a déjà vu experience, for I had traveled to Mexico and seen the Mayan pyramids as a young man and been fascinated about them since then – more than 30 years ago, when an airport large enough to handle commercial aircraft first opened at Merida in the Yucatan Peninsula.
Back then, there were no “tours,” you had to hire a guide, as it was all jungle. And I did so, spending 17 days mostly in the jungle with a driver who spoke no English, only Mayan and a little bit of pigeon Spanish. I’ve been “hooked” about the Mayans ever since and have read just about everything there is to read. (I may have a past-life there.)
As Lungold spoke, I could feel the missing pieces of the puzzle falling into place. His words struck chords of truth in my body. I got chill bumps, confirming the truth of his words, as if they were keys unlocking mysteries that long had slumbered.
I am convinced that what he says is true. Better, I know in my heart his words are true. It was déjà vu.
I cannot give what Lungold said justice. You will have to hear him speak for yourself. But I can relate much of what he said. I urge everyone to see his website and order the Mayan Calendar & Conversion Codex ($15), so that you can see what each day brings in store for you: your daily crossword puzzle more or less of soul purpose. I now check mine every day. It’s a heckuva lot better than the astrology tidbit in the newspaper! Lungold started off by saying that the Dreamspell calendar is wrong; and I think he’s right. He also raised a
few eyebrows by saying that, contrary to just about every source on Earth, the end of time or the Shift of the Ages as represented by the Mayan Calendar is not the date of the winter solstice 2012, but instead is Oct. 28, 2011.
Actually, he believes, Ascension will come before that.
The Mayans actually had about 20 calendars, he said. Of them, archeologists usually only recognize the Haab Calendar, which has 365½ days, like our own; but the Mayans only used that calendar for paying taxes.
The “real” calendar, that is, the one most Mayans paid attention to, was the Tzolkin Calendar of 260 days. Archeologists and scientists throw out this and the 360-day Tun Calendar because they don’t understand them. In fact, all indigenous people on the planet with any sense of astronomy and math used a 360-day calendar. It wasn’t that they didn’t understand the mathematics of the orbit of the planet around the sun (365½ days), but because that physical calendar doesn’t really mean much.
The Tzolkin, 260-day calendar, was the Count of Days, a personal calendar. Every Mayan had his or her own “day,” and the date the person was born on this calendar was his or her first name.
For example, looking on the Codex for my birthday – Dec. 16, 1952 – I see that the day is the number two of the sign of the Sun. So, my Mayan name would be 2 Sun Jim Ewing. Two Sun would be my “real” name, with what people call me, family, etc., added on, because, as Lungold put it: “You vibrated in on this day to match your personality and life purpose.”
The 260-day Tzolkin calendar reflects the spiritual fact that there are 13 intentions and 20 aspects in this 3rd Dimension. All of Creation resonates with these frequencies. So, why have a 260-day calendar and a 360-day calendar?
It’s not because, as Western archeologists have scoffed: “Ignorant savages, they can’t even count the number of days in the year!” For, in fact, the 365½-day calendar the Mayans had is more accurate than most of what passed for a Western calendar up until the invention of atomic clocks: they were that precise in their astronomy.
No, the 360-day Tun Calendar (like those of other indigenous peoples) was a Spiritual Calendar; it didn’t measure the physical universe, but the more “real” aspects of Spirit. It was the Divine or Prophetic Calendar. At 52 revolutions of it, 52 Tun, a man would become an elder (by this count, I still have two more years, I reckon); also every 52 Tun, the people in every village would put out all the fires and start over, creating anew their civilization (the Egyptians had a similar practice and so did, I’m told, the Cherokee).
The confusion over the Shift of The Ages from the Mayan Calendar, Lungold says, is that people are calculating the date in Tun via 360 days. But the 360-day calendar does not stand alone. The 260-day Tzolkin and 360-day Tun Calendars operate together; they are like gears that mesh, with the Tzolkin turning one way and the Tun turning the other; separate but connected, and spinning together.
Here is an important point: The Western Gregorian Calendar recognizes only the physical world. If you made a cross with a perpendicular line representing time and a horizontal line representing space, you would have a “calendar,” like our calendar. You know that if someone is in France or the United States, anywhere on the globe, it is the same day. And it will be the same day one year from now. That’s because it is based on physical properties that can be measured in time and space (the whole purpose and viewpoint of science).
Anything that is not based on physical reality, to the modern Western World, is “unreal.” And so, time and place is based on physical reality and our calendar reflects that, things that can only be measured or judged by physical evidence.
The reverse works, too: Time and place as defined by an individual (or culture) is the location from which you view the universe. That, for all intents “is” the universe. Anything else is just not perceived or is excluded as being “unreal,” or not playing a part. But the Mayans, with their Tun and Tzolkin calendars, didn’t recognize physical reality as being all that important. What they considered important was Spirit and the tuggings of destiny, or life purpose for the individual and his or her place in the scheme of the Divine.
They “saw,” understood, and lived in a world where physical reality was only a shadow of Spirit, the “real” reality. Physical reality is only a component of reality, not reality itself.
So, take that time/space cross and put it in a circle (representing a sphere three-dimensionally) and draw one line (personal intent/personality) through it at one angle and another line (Divine Plan) through it at another angle and you have a more accurate, three-dimensional calendar. (See attached.) It is a reality that is “more real,” and one that will increasingly become more useful as the pace of Creation moves forward toward the Shift Of The Ages.
You are still at a time and place, but in addition, you have your own soul purpose/personality propensities and the Divine Will for Creation intersecting with that time and place. It is a much more accurate “calendar.”
Lungold says: What you pay attention to, you become conscious of. Since we fixate on the two-dimensional Haab calendar, one year is the same from year to year; but if we paid attention to the intersection of Divine Will and life purpose/personality/propensities, our “time” on this planet would be much richer, much more rewarding, with no two days, much less each year, alike. It would more accurately reflect true reality.
We Are Climbing Steps of Consciousness
To understand the Mayan Calendar, one has only to look at a Mayan Pyramid. To the Mayans, their pyramids were monuments to Creation as it unfolds and the Divine and humankind’s place in time.
The Mayan pyramids are “step” pyramids because each “step” represents the Ascension of humankind. Each is a level of consciousness and each can be accurately measured. Each “step” has 13 equal parts: seven days and six nights, just as in the Christian Bible’s story of Creation. Except that in Mayan Calendar, as represented in the Mayan Pyramid, Creation didn’t stop. It starts from the beginning, the lowest or first level, and keeps on going through the “Now,” into the End Times, step by step. And they all interlock.
There Are Nine Levels of Consciousness
The First Level Of Consciousness -- (the base of the pyramid; he calls “The Cell Level”) started 16.4 billion years ago and it starts with the Big Bang; we’re now in the 7th Day of that level with “daybreak” of this day the creation of cells.
That beginning date is the Big Bang (although the Hubble telescope has found stars that date the Big Bang 14 billion years ago, Lungold thinks scientists will find that the Mayans were right; after all, until the Hubble went into space, scientists thought the universe was anywhere from 10 billion to 30 billion years old and the Mayans are closer to what Hubble has found with their calendar they created 5,000 years ago.
The Second Level of Consciousness -- (the second “step” of the pyramid; he calls “Mammals”) started 820 million years ago; each “day”is 63.4 million years; we are in the 7th Day that started 63.4 million years ago.
The Third Level of Consciousness – (the third step; he calls “Monkeys,” since that’s what most of it represents, or the rise of “Families and Individuals,” at the end) started 41 million years ago; and each day is 3.1 million years; we are in the 7th day that started 3.1 million years ago.
The Fourth Level of Consciousness – (the fourth step; he calls “Tribal,” for the creation of tribal culture) started 2 million years ago; each day is 160,000 years; we are in the 7th day that started 160,000 years ago.
The Fifth Level of Consciousness – (the fifth step; he calls “Cultural,” for the creation of the human cultures of the Earth) started 102,000 years ago; each day is 8,000 years; we are in the 7th Day that started 8,000 years ago.
The Sixth Level of Consciousness – (the sixth step; he calls “National,” for the creation of nation-states) started in 3115 B.C. (when the Tun Calendar began; when Egypt consolidated the Upper and Lower Nile to become the first nation-state, when writing began and when agriculture began to flourish); each day is 400 years; we are in the 7th day that began in 1619 A.D.
The Seventh Level of Consciousness – (the seventh step; he calls “Planetary Consciousness) started in 1755 (with science and the beginnings of the Industrial Revolution); each day is 20 years; we are in the 7th day that began in 1992. The Eighth Level of Consciousness – (the eighth step; he calls “Galactic Consciousness”) started Jan. 5, 1999; one day equals 360 days (the same as the Tun Calendar year); June 17th was midnight of the second day.
The Ninth Level of Consciousness – (the ninth step; he calls “Universal Consciousness”) begins Feb. 10, 2011; one day equals 20 days; the whole year is 260 days (the same as the Tzolkin Calendar), and it ends Oct. 28, 2011.
Effects of This “End Times”
If you’ve noticed that time seems to have “speeded up,” Lungold says, well it has and it hasn’t. If you look at where we are on the Mayan Calendar, you see that up until the 19th century, one “day” was 400 years. That means that what your great-grandparents did is pretty much what their parents, grandparents and great-grandparents did. But as the Seventh Level of Consciousness unfolded, one “day” equaled 20 years – which if you go back to our parents and their parents, equals “the generation gap,” getting more and more
powerful as the Eighth Level approached.
Our generation, that means anyone born before 1999, is accustomed to one “day” in consciousness to equal 20 years.
But, now, since we’re in the Eighth Level, since 1999, each “day” equals 360 days. Those of us who were born and reached adulthood before 1999 are having a hard time adjusting. But those kids who were in 1999 or are only reaching adulthood don’t have this time-frame baggage. To them, this accelerated time is “normal.”
That is why, he says, so many kids in the past 20 years are being diagnosed as “ill,” with ADD, etc., and given drugs, to slow them down, because adults just don’t “get it.” These kids are not “slow,” or “ill,” they’re bored. In terms of human consciousness, as it has developed over the past 2 million years or so, they’re zipping along at one “day” every 360 days while their parents, teachers, etc., are plodding along at one “day” equaling 20 years!
He says that time has and has not “speeded up,” because, it may seem so, but in actuality, time is not speeding up, Creation is. More and more is occurring in every available moment.
This has two effects:
1) The more that happens every moment, the more is possible to occur;
2) The more that happens every moment, the less the mind is able to process what is occurring.
The mind just can’t keep up.
The mind, it has been measured, can only process information at 1/30th of a second. That’s measurable. If you look at the effects of a strobe light, as long as the interval of light flashes are slower than 1/30th of a second, it appears as if moving things are “frozen” in time. If the strobe flashes quicker than 1/30th of a second, moving objects appear to be moving fluidly because the mind fills in the gaps. It appears “normal” even if the light is still flickering because we don’t “see” gaps that are quicker than 1/30th of a
second with our conscious minds. That’s how subliminal messages are sent: on the borderline between conscious and subconscious perception.
Thinking is at the speed of reading; you “think” as fast as words form and are processed. But consciousness is at the speed of light.
So, as we progress along this timeline of increasing Creation, we need to rely less on thinking and more on intuition, inner “knowing,” relying on our Higher Power, because, ultimately, when we reach the Ninth Level, we will BE our Higher Power!
Or, we just won’t adapt and will fall apart mentally or die.
Why are so many people now feeling they are unable to cope? Acting irrationally? Falling back into old patterns of behavior? Becoming more narrow-minded and fearful? Wanting to find scapegoats, easy solutions, follow a leader, turning to organized religion or government militarism? Turning to drugs or alcohol? Because they cannot adapt.
When the world and everything in it is happening faster than you can process it with your mind, with your thinking, that creates stress, he says. With stress comes “fight or flight,” or reacting irrationally. That becomes unconsciousness – either rejecting everything, focusing narrowly on what “can” seemingly be controlled and blocking out the rest or turning to mind-numbing behaviors or escape, such as drugs, alcohol, neurosis.
The changing pace of Creation not only demands we be “present,” fully aware, but that we be careful where we put our attention; for again, your consciousness goes where you put your attention. We must – now, right Now! – begin our personal transition, or transcendence, from a mental existence to a heart-centered existence.
Our consciousness can adapt instantly even if our thinking has to drag along.
We are on the “feathery edges” right now of creating our world, he says. We are what we pay attention to. If you pay attention to your fears, that is what is going to show up.
Notice that when the 9th Level of Consciousness begins, Feb. 10, 2011, one year will equal 260 days, the same as the Tzolkin, or personal calendar, year. We will be “in sync” with whatever our personal vibration in Creation may be. We will each “create” our world. Or we will be victims of whatever in Creation we allow our fears and judgments to create for us. We must follow our intuition, our inner “knowing,” our Higher Power, for if you are doing so, you are following the stream of Creation.
It is only when you stop to think about something that you get out of the flow of Creation.
Lungold puts it this way: “More and more of Creation will present itself every moment until every moment all Creation exists at every moment.”
The big Cosmic Joke is, though, that this already exists. Our consciousness must catch up!
We are moving from a Three-Dimensional World to a Fourth- and then a Fifth-Dimensional World.
The beings that live in the 4th and 5th Dimensions are watching us with great fascination, he says, like a soap opera. They don’t know if or how we can do it.
By the same token, he says, there is a galactic quarantine on Earth among the Star Beings regarding any official contact. Since we don’t know how, yet, to handle 4th- and 5th-Dimensional living, it would be destructive for any human at this time to be handed the keys to the universe, as it were.
(A note here: Some say this “quarantine” has been and is being broken. William Cooper, in his book “Behold a Pale Horse,” Light Technology Publishing, Flagstaff, Ariz., 1991, details U.S. government dealings with aliens dating back to, first the investigation of UFOs in Project SIGN in 1947, Project GRUDGE in 1948, and Project BLUEBOOK after that to investigate and discredit civilian sightings. Citing memos of the National Security Agency, itself formed in part in response to a perceived alien threat in 1954, and Executive Orders from
the President, Cooper confirms that, as Golden Eagle/Standing Elk said at the Crestone, Colo., conference that 17 spacecraft crashed in 1947, but adds that 10 more crashed in 1953.
The government, says Cooper, communicated with aliens in Projects SIGMA and PLATO, resulting in a meeting from which the movie “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” was based, and three landings at military bases took place before 1954. Cooper contends that a secret treaty was signed between a group of aliens by President Dwight Eisenhower, and that Projects MAJESTIC, REDLIGHT and SNOWBIRD were crafted to monitor alien activity, test their technology and provide “cover” or disinformation for government activities to deflect public
scrutiny. He details where testing sites were built under government secrecy, with funding under military construction budgets for the testing of alien equipment, using both human and alien researchers, primarily in the Four Corners area of New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona and Utah, and test sites in Nevada and the Mojave Desert of California.
According to Cooper, President Eisenhower signed Executive Memorandums NSC 5510 and NSC 5412/1 to establish a permanent committee to oversee covert activities regarding alien matters and to deflect questions by Congress and the media; it came to be known as Majesty Twelve or MJ-12 and was called the 40 Committee under Presidents Nixon, Ford and Carter and the PI-40 Committee under Reagan.
President Eisenhower, Cooper says, wanted to tell the public about the landings and contact but was dissuaded, in fear that mass hysteria might result; and public secrecy, even from Congress, he says, has been the result; Nixon in his final days reportedly threatened to “tell the truth” about “the alien question,” but did not. The first alien ambassador, according to Cooper, was Crlll or Krlll in 1954.
America soon found that this alien race was untrustworthy and was breaking the terms of the treaty, specifically the abduction and mutilation of humans; relations soured, but since the U.S. did not have adequate technology to fight the aliens, except nuclear weapons, nothing could be done; the U.S. government, Cooper says, has acquired incredibly advanced technology from them, including time travel under Project RAINBOW, various anti-gravity craft, and compact, clean nuclear power engines that run on water and produce hydrogen as a byproduct.
More information about this agreement with The Greys is included in Bob Frissell’s book, “Nothing In This Book Is True, But It’s Exactly How Things Are,” Frog Ltd., Berkeley, Calif., 1994.
Cooper says that as his book was being written, the entertainment industry was being encouraged to promote alien contact as a theme since the “secret” is about to come out and cannot be contained any longer. Like Agent Moulder in the (semi?) fictional TV show “The X-Files,” I don’t know what The Truth is in all this, but I find it interesting that Cooper also admits, given the official government disinformation regarding alien contact, which is pretty obvious given the number of bona fide sightings over the years, that “it is no
mystery to me why mainstream America calls ufologists whackos, loonies, and nuts,” adding: In some cases they are.”)
The Current “Year” in The Mayan Calendar
At present, we are in the 2nd night of the Galactic Cycle (June 17th was midnight of the second day) in the Eighth Level of Consciousness.
He breaks down the days as these:
First Day began Jan. 5 1999; First Night began Dec. 30, 1999;
Second Day began Dec. 24, 2000; Second Night, Dec. 19, 2001;
Third Day begins Dec. 14, 2002: Third Night, Dec. 9, 2003;
Fourth Day begins Dec. 4, 2004: Fourth Night, Nov. 28, 2005;
Fifth Day begins Nov. 23, 2006; Fifth Night, Nov. 17, 2007;
Sixth Day begins Nov. 12, 2008; Sixth Night, Nov. 7, 2009;
Seventh Day begins Nov. 2, 2010;
Ninth Level of Consciousness begins Feb. 10, 2011; Time ends Oct. 28, 2011.
Is this how things are going to pan out?
I haven’t a clue. My own theory is that we make our own reality already. As we set our intent, we send out strings of energy that gravitate to them our experiences. These intents are modified by karma, pre-born decisions, intervention of Higher Powers, and our interactions with our soul brothers and sisters we agreed to meet on this plane.
For example, if your intent is for Ascension, you will gravitate experiences to aid you or propel you toward Ascension, based at any moment on the life lessons you have learned (and still need to learn), the agreements you made before you came here, and the Powers of the Universe (including all spiritual beings who may intercede up to the Creator Him- or Her-self).
But, I do know one thing: The way Ian Xel Lungold explains the Mayan Calendar makes sense. We’ll see…
Aho.
