Intro to Everyday Herbalism: Connecting with the Plant-Nations
taught by Annette Waya Ewing

That herbs have pretty much fallen out of our daily culinary practice, I think, is to our detriment. Herbs and spices, even in small amounts for flavoring, are beneficial, and support wellness. The purpose of this workshop is to give the learner the tools, experience and confidence to begin incorporating herbs back into their daily lives.

This one day intensive gives you the hands-on basics you need to begin learning to create simple traditonal "kitchen medicine" remedies for yourself and family. This workshop is participatory/interactive and fun.

We will practice connecting to plants; listening, feeling their energy, and learning ways to treat them with honor amd respect.

The student will gather (some) and work with various nutritious, mild, non-toxic (food) herbs, both wild and cultivated. We will produce a skin soothing balm, a nutritious and delicious vinegar infusion, a water infusion, tinctures in both glycerin and alcohol, an essence oil synergy, an immune supportive soup and a honey infusion. The emphasis is on quality of process, which involves respecting the materials and tools, intent, 'staying present' and positive energy. Working with plants is yet another way of (re) connecting to our natural selves.

The study of herbalism is a lifelong endeavor. In this workshop we will go over some foundation concepts, learn some basic ways to 'process' herbs, as well as introductory information about each herb we work with. A bibliography of textbooks and online resources will support continued study and application of "kitchen herbalism" in your daily life.

The term "kitchen herbalism" comes from one of my acupuncture teachers; and refers loosely to the traditional Chinese practice of incorporating herbs to support wellness into daily food and drink. The role of the doctor in ancient China was to help people maintain wellness, balance. When a 'patient' became ill, the doctor paid, not the patient!

Tuition: $100.00
This includes lunch, a small kit of basic supplies for making tinctures and other preparations, the supplies/materials used in creating the kitchen medicines each student will take home, instructional handouts, and a workshop certificate.

The class starts at 9:30 a.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m., and includes a gourmet lunch.
6 class hours.

Offered SUNDAY AUGUST 30, 2009

"Annette Ewing presents her workshops within the context of her native American heritage and spirituality. Related
to herbs, this approach is different from the evidenced-based approach of the Pharm D's who also frequently present
this content. Each of these ways of knowing adds to nurse practitioner's knowledge and skill when providing care to
patients and families. Annette's workshops offered in her home are informal and relaxed with only a small group present.
Annette and her home are filled with love and healing energy so the experience is not only informative but healing for
participants.

Annette is a Reiki master, with knowledge about an array of integrative medicine modalities and energy therapies.
She is a medicine woman/healer, expert teacher and truly wonderful person."
